Everything Will Change: A Photographic Journey

”“Everything Will Change” is a series of photographs focused on the theme of climate change. This project represents collaborative work with several communities in Arctic Lapland as well as in South Africa, alongside explorations in the natural parks of Lapland: Pallas, Teno, and Vattunkiköngäs, as well as in South Africa’s Kirstenbosch and Trans-Kalahari natural parks. The photos transition from one location to another, layered over one another. In South Africa, the photographs capture a workshop held in District 6 of Cape Town, where local residents had to relocate to make way for the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. This workshop involved local university educators and artists discussing the fundamentals of sustainability and creating an installation of plastic flowers that mimic the real ones found in Kirstenbosch. The photographs from Lapland were taken during a training workshop focused on reconciliation around Sámi issues. The theme of sustainability inherently involves notions of transformation and change. Achieving balance within the natural environment always requires some form of transformation, whether it is natural or a result of human impact in the Anthropocene.
