Miettinen, Qureshi, Pietarinen & Sarantou presented an installation “Co-authoring identities and bio art” at the AMASS Symposium III, FINAL EVENT, A Critical Context: Issues that Matter at Corso Space, National Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic on the 24th of November 2022. Please see the video here. The arts can bring people together, and connections between people and communities can happen in many ways. These connections can be complicated, but they can also be strong, as seen in this collaboration that happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. This exhibition explores the connections that develop around people, nature, creativity, care, and expressing who we are. These textiles talk about questions about who we are. Our lives take us through different situations, whether they are related to where we live or the people around us. The more we accept diversity, the more we learn about our benefits and history. By connecting with nature, we become a part of it. Perhaps, history teaches us to accept the challenges of today, and nature teaches us to take care of all living things. The exhibition displays the outcomes of partnerships between four artist-researchers who focus on digital bioart and collaborate with non-human entities. These partnerships inspire artistic methods and the use of materials that help us discover hidden potentials in our surroundings and explore fresh ways of co-creating that are inventive, environmentally friendly, and welcoming. The exhibition also examines the connections and distinctions between the artists and their subjects by gathering different sensory encounters.
